Wish you were here

As photographers we all experience times when absolutely nothing seems to work in our favour. Weather conditions, ideas, whatever it may be sometimes it just feels as if we just shouldn’t have bothered that day.
On this particular shoot which I had planned for meticulously a few days prior, with regards to tides, sunrise forecasts and weather predictions and the exact opposite of that had happened.
With this being a summer shoot an early night had been in order to allow for the 5 a.m sunrise. My chosen location was a 20-minute drive from my home so by the time my alarm had gone off (3.15 a.m) it hardly felt as though it was worth going to bed. I always like to arrive with plenty of time to set up and really appreciate and take in what’s going on around me.
The tide had receded as planned, and I was left with a channel of water about 18 inches deep which I decided to wade through barefooted as it was so warm (perfect). The still conditions were producing some fantastic reflections so it was fingers crossed for a colourful sunrise. I set up my camera and as I always do when I’m trying to be as creative as possible I put in my headphones and hit the play button on my phone’s playlist.
The next 50 minutes can only be described as some of the best and most creative minutes of my life. The blue hour had produced some of the best lighting conditions I had ever been in, and I was already 20 or so fantastic shots into an incredible shoot.
Just after 5 a.m. and the sun began to make its climb above the horizon. The sky was producing some absolutely phenomenal colours and I was now literally kneeling in beautifully warm water, listening to Pink Floyd’s “Wish you were here” and just in complete awe of what mother nature was offering in Infront of me. Three things that play a massive part in my life (Nature, Music and photography) had come together that morning for quite possibly one of the most memorable shoots Iver ever had.
I’m a huge believer that the more effort we put into something, the more results we will be rewarded with and I can honestly say that I left that morning with some of the most creative shots I have ever taken.
